STEP 4: Get Involved in Preparing Your Community After preparing yourself and your family for possible emergencies, take the next step and get involved in preparing your community. Join Citizen Corps, which actively involves citizens in making our communities and our nation safer, stronger and better prepared. We all have a role to play in keeping our hometowns secure from emergencies of all kinds. Citizen Corps works hard to help people prepare, train and volunteer in their communities. Go to www.citizencorps.gov for more information and to get involved. To become involved in a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in your area, please consult the following list of county contacts. If you county does not yet have an established team, please contact Colleen Mixson (cmixson@emd.state.sc.us) at the South Carolina Emergency Management Division about how you can become involved.
