It is important for all South Carolinians to be prepared when disaster strikes. A key first step is to make sure that you are informed about the possible risks. Once you understand those risks, you should develop a plan to protect yourself and your family. Planning for what you will do in a disaster and how you will communicate is essential. It is also important to have the necessary supplies on hand. Making sure that there are sufficient supplies of water, food and other necessities for each member of your household is a critical step in preparedness. Once those steps have been taken, you should consider becoming involved in preparedness efforts in your community. When a disaster does occur, all South Carolinians must work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens.
